Et mes parents avaient une collection de vinyls avec beaucoup de vinyls des Beatles et des Rolling Stones. Je pense que ce sont les Beatles qui m\u2019ont donn\u00e9s l\u2019envie d\u2019\u00eatre musicien. Et alors, j\u2019ai entendu Led Zeppelin quand j\u2019avais 5-6 ans, et \u00e7a m\u2019a vraiment donn\u00e9 envie de jouer de la guitare.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Concernant Vibrato, il y a 4 chansons avec chant, 4 chansons instrumentales et 3 chansons en live (des reprises), comment en etes vous arriv\u00e9 a faire 4 chansons avec chant, 4 chansons instrumentales? Juste comme \u00e7a, pourquoi ces 3 reprises? <\/b><b>(\u00ab\u00a0Roundabout\u00a0\u00bb by Yes, \u00ab\u00a0I Want to Be Loved\u00a0\u00bb by Muddy Waters, and \u00ab\u00a0Go Down\u00a0\u00bb by AC\/DC)?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG : <\/b>J\u2019ai tendance \u00e0 me lasser si j\u2019\u00e9coute la m\u00eame chose sans cesse, donc j\u2019aime avoir une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de chansons \u00e0 enregistrer, si j\u2019entends une chanson avec du chant, je me mets alors \u00e0 penser \u00e0 une chanson instrumentale. Si j\u2019entends une chanson de studio j\u2019ai alors la folle envie de quelque chose de live. C\u2019est presque comme avoir un bon repas. Cela devrait avoir une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de saveurs.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Pouvez-vous m\u2019en dire plus sur la chanson \u00ab\u00a0Enemies (In Jail)\u00a0\u00bb, vous avez dit que c\u2019\u00e9tait inspir\u00e9 par un livre que vous aviez \u00e9crit quand vous \u00e9tiez plus jeune?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG : <\/b>C\u2019est vrai. Je devais avoir \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s 4 ans. Je ne pouvais pas encore \u00e9crire ou orthographier \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, donc je dessinais des images et puis je disais les mots \u00e0 ma m\u00e8re pour qu\u2019elle puisse les \u00e9crire sur la page. Une des choses que j\u2019ai \u00e9crite \u00e9tait \u201cIt\u2019s happy when you get to ride in a racing car. And one of your bad, bad, bad, bad, bad enemies is in jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>J\u2019ai trouv\u00e9 que c\u2019\u00e9tait vraiment dr\u00f4le. Premi\u00e8rement parce que je ne peux pas m\u2019imaginer avoir des ennemis quand j\u2019avais 4 ans. Et bien s\u00fbr parce que ce n\u2019est pas consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une qualit\u00e9 admirable de souhaiter malheur \u00e0 ses ennemis. Mais en tant qu\u2019enfant, je n\u2019avais pas encore appris \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir mes pens\u00e9es, donc, je racontais seulement la v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Je pense que les gens ont VRAIMENT du plaisir \u00e0 se venger. Ce n\u2019est pas honorable mais c\u2019est la v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Et le soulagement de dire la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 aboutit souvent a en rire.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Le dernier album s\u2019appelait Fuzz Universe, maintenant Vibrato, pourquoi 2 nom si sp\u00e9cifiques sur des modulations ou saturations de sons?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG : <\/b>J\u2019aime les sons. Le Vibrato est extr\u00eamement important pour moi. C\u2019est la premi\u00e8re chose que j\u2019\u00e9coute quand j\u2019entends n\u2019importe quelle guitare. \u00c7a donne \u00e0 la guitare sa voix.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Votre femme joue dans cet album au synth\u00e9 et au chant, comment cela est-il arriv\u00e9?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG : <\/b>Ca fait des ann\u00e9es qu\u2019Emi enregistre et tourne avec moi maintenant. Elle a jou\u00e9 plus de 200 dates avec moi, donc nous avons construit une connexion musicale tr\u00e8s forte. Elle a un merveilleux instinct pour savoir quoi jouer dans les chansons.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Qui sont vos inspirations depuis que vous avez commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 jouer, est ce qu\u2019ils ont vraiment influenc\u00e9 votre musique?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG :<\/b> Il y a tellement de groupes et de chansons que j\u2019aime, mais les plus importants qui me viennent \u00e0 l\u2019esprit sont The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Rush, Robin Trower, Pat Travers, Yngwie Malmsteen, Todd Rundgren, et plus recemment les joueurs de Blues comme B.B. King et Magic Sam. Evidemment ils influencent ma musique, sinon, j\u2019aurais eu \u00e0 inventer toutes les accords et les gammes par moi-m\u00eame. Et c\u2019est impossible pour une personne.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Est-ce que votre relation avec le Japon vient de votre grand succ\u00e8s avec Mr.Big ou \u00e9tiez-vous d\u00e9j\u00e0 un grand fan de ce pays avant ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG : <\/b>Le Japon est le premier pays que j\u2019ai visit\u00e9 en dehors des Etats Unis. C\u2019\u00e9tait en 1989 sur la premi\u00e8re tourn\u00e9e de Mr.Big. Je ne connaissais pas grand-chose au sujet du Japon. Je ne connaissais pas grand \u00e0 propos de quoi que ce soit! J\u2019\u00e9tais jeune et j\u2019avais pass\u00e9 tout mon temps \u00e0 jouer de la guitare. Je connaissais beaucoup des solos de Van Halen et Randy Rhoads, mais pas grand concernant la g\u00e9ographie ou la culture. Depuis lors, j\u2019ai voyag\u00e9 et maintenant je m\u2019y connais un peu plus, surtout \u00e0 propos de la nourriture.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : Avez-vous d\u2019autres hobbies autres que la musique?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG : <\/b>Pas plus que \u00e7a. J\u2019aime vraiment la musique donc la plupart de ce que je fais est en rapport avec \u00e7a par n\u2019importe quel moyen. J\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 une \u00e9cole de guitare en ligne cette ann\u00e9e, donc j\u2019ai beaucoup enseign\u00e9, et j\u2019ai fait des vid\u00e9os pour r\u00e9pondre aux questions des \u00e9l\u00e8ves. Paul Gilbert<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: We all know you from Racer X and Mr.Big, could you please tell us what did make you start playing guitar?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>My uncle played guitar, and I was always excited to hear him play. And my parents had a record collection with lots of Beatles and Rolling Stones records. I think it was the Beatles that made me want to be a musician. Then I heard Led Zeppelin when I was around 5 or 6 years old, and that really made me want to play guitar.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: About Vibrato, there are 4 vocal songs, 4 instrumental songs, and 3 live tracks (cover songs), how did come the choice to make 4 vocals, 4 intrumental is it an accident? By the way, why those 3 covers? (\u00ab\u00a0Roundabout\u00a0\u00bb by Yes, \u00ab\u00a0I Want to Be Loved\u00a0\u00bb by Muddy Waters, and \u00ab\u00a0Go Down\u00a0\u00bb by AC\/DC)?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>I tend to get bored if I hear the same thing over and over again, so I like to have a variety of music on the record. If I hear a vocal song, then I start thinking about an instrumental song. If I hear a studio song, then I start craving something live. It\u2019s almost like a good meal. It should have a variety of flavors.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: Tell me more about the song \u00ab\u00a0Enemies (In Jail)\u00a0\u00bb, you said it was inspired by a book you wrote when you were younger?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>That\u2019s right. I must have been about four years old. I couldn\u2019t actually write and spell yet, so I would draw the pictures and then tell the words to my mom, so she could write them on the page. One of the things that I wrote was, \u201cIt\u2019s happy when you get to ride in a racing car. And one of your bad, bad, bad, bad, bad enemies is in jail.\u201d<br \/>\nI thought that was really funny. First, because I can\u2019t imagine having enemies when I was just four years old. And of course, it\u2019s not considered an admirable quality to wish misfortune on one\u2019s enemies. But as a kid, I hadn\u2019t learned to edit my thoughts yet, so I was just telling the truth. I think that people DO get pleasure from revenge. It may not be admirable, but it\u2019s the truth. And the relief of telling the truth often results in laughter.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR : The last album was named Fuzz Universe, now vibrato, why two so specifics names about sound&rsquo;s modulation\/ saturation?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>I love sound. Vibrato is extremely important to me. It\u2019s the first thing that I listen for when I hear any guitarist. It gives the guitar its voice.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: Your wife plays in this album keyboards and vocals, how did it happens?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>Emi has been recording and touring with me for years now. She\u2019s played over 200 shows with me, so we\u2019ve built a b musical connection. She has a great instinct for what to play in the songs.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: Who are your inspirations since you started playing music, did they really influence your music ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><b>PG: <\/b><\/b>There are so many bands and songs that I love, but the biggest ones that come to mind are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Rush, Robin Trower, Pat Travers, Yngwie Malmsteen, Todd Rundgren, and more recently blues players like B.B. King and Magic Sam. Of course, they influenced my music, otherwise, I\u2019d have to invent all the those chords and scales myself. And that\u2019s impossible for one person!<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: Are you relations with Japan come from the big success with mr big or were you already fond of this country before?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>Japan was the first country that I visited outside of the United States. That was back in 1989 on the first Mr. Big tour. I really didn\u2019t know much about it. I didn\u2019t know much about anything! I was young and had spend all my time playing guitar. I knew a lot of Van Halen and Randy Rhoads solos, but not much about geography or culture. Since then, I\u2019ve travelled all over the world, and now I know a bit more, especially about food.<\/p>\n<p><b>ANR: Do you have any others artistic hobbies than music?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>PG: <\/b>Not many. I really like music so most of what I do is connected to it somehow. I started an online rock guitar school this year, so I\u2019ve been teaching a lot, and making videos to reply to the students\u2019 questions. You should check it out!
