Le chanteur pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 des mutualistes est de retour ce mois d\u2019octobre avec \u00ab\u00a0Kings & Queens of the Underworld\u00a0\u00bb. Le nouveau disque de celui qui a inspir\u00e9 le personnage de FLOYD MALLOY dans le dessin anim\u00e9 MASK (et pas ASK), puis de SPIKE dans BUFFY CONTRE LES VAMPIRES, est form\u00e9 de onze nouveaux morceaux.<\/p>\n

Id\u00e9e-force\u00a0: le son privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 par l\u2019ancien chanteur de GENERATION X est ouvertement Rock FM, celui qui correspond \u00e0 ses ann\u00e9es dor\u00e9es entre 1982 et 1990, et qui lui sied le mieux\u00a0: batterie papoum<\/em> bien produite, basse en retrait, synth\u00e9, et voix, tant\u00f4t de voyou, tant\u00f4t de chanteur eighties. D\u2019ailleurs, Steve Stevens et son coiffeur sont eux-aussi de retour, afin d\u2019\u00e9pauler leur Boss historique. Le ton est donn\u00e9 d\u00e8s le premier titre, \u00ab\u00a0Bitter Pill\u00a0\u00bb, dont la production fait \u00e9trangement songer \u00e0 du SIMPLE MINDS grande \u00e9poque\u2026 Rock FM \u00e9pique et voix grave rassurante. Cette id\u00e9e se renforce avec \u00ab\u00a0Can\u2019t Break me Down\u00a0\u00bb (et son \u00ab\u00a0WHOHOWHOHO\u00a0\u00bb survitamin\u00e9 en intro), \u00ab\u00a0Save me Now\u00a0\u00bb (s\u00e9rieusement, on dirait du U2 circa<\/em> 1985), \u00ab\u00a0One Breath Away\u00a0\u00bb (qui sonne cette fois comme du U2 technologique p\u00e9riode \u00ab\u00a0Zooropa\u00a0\u00bb), \u00ab\u00a0Eyes Wide Shut\u00a0\u00bb, ou encore \u00ab\u00a0Love and Glory\u00a0\u00bb (et pourquoi pas \u00ab\u00a0Love and Money\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0?).<\/p>\n

Si ces comparaisons peuvent peut-\u00eatre agacer, mon propos n\u2019est nullement moqueur ou provocateur. Il semblerait que l\u2019idole des DONNAS a souhait\u00e9 ici revisiter sans arri\u00e8re-pens\u00e9e mesquine et commerciale son pass\u00e9, nous faire partager le simple fait qu\u2019il aura soixante ans l\u2019an prochain, et que son visage \u00e9maci\u00e9 lui fait ressembler de plus en plus \u00e0 celui d\u2019un couturier allemand tr\u00e8s connu. Le th\u00e8me du pass\u00e9 irrigue donc les paroles de certains morceaux (\u00ab\u00a0Postcards from the Past\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0; \u00ab\u00a0Ghosts in my Guitar\u00a0\u00bb). Dans l\u2019\u00e9mouvant \u00ab\u00a0Kings & Queens of the Underground\u00a0\u00bb, balade presque m\u00e9di\u00e9vale (qui nous \u00e9voque\u2026 du MAIDEN progressif), l\u2019ex-Cyberpunk joue la carte de la nostalgie assum\u00e9e, invoquant l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1977, puis celle de 1984 ou \u00ab\u00a0\u2018Rebel Yell\u2019 had the floor (\u2026) On MTV baby I was high as the moon\u00a0\u00bb\u2026\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Fallen Years\u00a0\u00bb sont d\u2019ailleurs les deux mots qu\u2019il chantonne au milieu, puis \u00e0 la fin de cette ode au temps jadis.<\/p>\n

Les th\u00e8mes de la nostalgie et de la carri\u00e8re pass\u00e9e ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 porteurs en mati\u00e8re de Rock, souvenons-nous entre autres de \u00ab\u00a0Et la voix d\u2019Elvis\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Wasted Years\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Yesterdays\u00a0\u00bb ou encore \u00ab\u00a0Kickstart myt Heart\u00a0\u00bb. En plus de leurs qualit\u00e9s musicales, ces morceaux nous ont marqu\u00e9s parce que les auteurs y livraient leurs sentiments quant au temps \u00e9coul\u00e9, notamment \u00e0 vivre leurs vies de musiciens. Cette p\u00e9riode \u00e9coul\u00e9e est parall\u00e8lement celle des auditeurs et fans, qui ont grandi puis muri en les \u00e9coutant. Et puis, il n\u2019y a rien de plus sympa et f\u00e9d\u00e9rateur qu\u2019un vieux Rocker qui assume le poids des ann\u00e9es. Avec \u00ab\u00a0Kings & Queens of the Underground\u00a0\u00bb, William Michael Albert Broad initie avec \u00e9l\u00e9gance cette d\u00e9marche. On recommandera cet album \u00e0 ses \u00e9mules (qui pourront l\u2019\u00e9couter en lisant l\u2019autobiographie \u00ab\u00a0Dancing with Myself\u00a0\u00bb qu\u2019il a publi\u00e9 ce 7 octobre 2014), ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 ceux qui souhaitent d\u00e9couvrir son exp\u00e9rience et son savoir-faire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
