Les pieuvres, je les ai litt\u00e9ralement dans la peau. Ce sont des animaux fascinants, et Lovecraft les a li\u00e9s pour longtemps avec la magie et les forces inqui\u00e9tantes des bas-fonds. Je ne pouvais pas manquer de me pencher sur le groupe originaire de Detroit, The Octopus, qui emprunte la voie des Grands Anciens avec son album \u00ab\u00a0 Supernatural alliance\u00a0\u00bb. Form\u00e9 en 2008 par J. Frezzato (ex-Electric Six), guitariste et Masha Marjieh au chant, The Octopus produit un Rock psych\u00e9d\u00e9lique tr\u00e8s en vogue ces temps-ci. Les titres \u00e9voquent la Fantasy (Sword and the Stone, Dragonhead). La pochette n’est pas en reste, avec une \u00e9quipe compos\u00e9e de quatre silhouettes, possiblement des mages, face \u00e0 une cr\u00e9ature \u00e9vanescente, gigantesque et pas forc\u00e9ment sympathique, le tout dans un paysage montagneux et d\u00e9pouill\u00e9, baignant dans une lumi\u00e8re d’un jaune orang\u00e9 f\u00e9erique. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Quant \u00e0 la musique, elle se classe sans peine dans le Heavy des ann\u00e9es 70, la chanteuse poss\u00e9dant une voix assez ensorcelante (Supernatural Alliance), puissante et entrainante. Les riffs rappellent ceux de Black Sabbath de ou Deep Purple (Strike) mais les musiciens y ajoutent juste ce qu’il faut de modernit\u00e9 pour affirmer leur propre personnalit\u00e9. La dur\u00e9e limit\u00e9e \u00e0 un maximum d’environ 3 minutes (sauf exception) des morceaux les rend incisifs. Une certaine dose de groove se marie avec bonheur \u00e0 un synth\u00e9 purement psych\u00e9d\u00e9lique (Child of Destiny). The Octopus sait aussi jouer avec le changement d’ambiance\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0The Unknown\u00a0\u00bb apporte sa touche de Doom et introduit un peu de noirceur dans son propos en ralentissant le rythme et en saturant un peu plus sa guitare. Dans le m\u00eame genre plomb\u00e9, il y a aussi \u00ab\u00a0Black Dynamite\u00a0\u00bb qui se rapproche fortement du Stoner.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Un morceau se d\u00e9marque particuli\u00e8rement, peut-\u00eatre parce que c’est la seule ballade. Peut-\u00eatre aussi parce qu’elle est \u00e9mouvante. \u00ab\u00a0Fleetwood Mac\u00a0\u00bb, c’est le titre, effleure la vie affective mouvement\u00e9e du groupe du m\u00eame nom.
\n<\/span>L’album se termine avec un \u00ab\u00a0Dragonhead\u00a0\u00bb dont le refrain \u00ab\u00a0I wanna believe\u00a0\u00bb donne envie de r\u00e9\u00e9couter \u00ab\u00a0Supernatural alliance\u00a0\u00bb pour replonger encore une fois\u00a0! <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
