C’est la fin de l’hiver, il fait froid mais beau, mais froid, mais beau. Et dans mes oreilles il y a Deathwhite. A la premi\u00e8re \u00e9coute, je me suis demand\u00e9 pourquoi j’avais accept\u00e9 de chroniquer cet album. Je m’attendais \u00e0 tout autre chose. Du brutal, du sombre. Et je me retrouve \u00e0 \u00e9couter un truc m\u00e9lodique. Pas du tout ce que j’aime en r\u00e8gle g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Je me suis fait avoir par le fait que les trois membres du groupe masquent leur visages, comme dans le Black Metal. Cependant, il faut bien chroniquer, et donc \u00e9couter \u00e0 plusieurs reprises pour rentrer dans l’album et en dire quelque chose.<\/p>\n

En l’occurrence, \u00ab\u00a0For A Black Tomorrow\u00a0\u00bb est le troisi\u00e8me album de Deathwhite, groupe am\u00e9ricain, apr\u00e8s deux EP, \u00ab\u00a0Ethereal\u00a0\u00bb (2014) et \u00ab\u00a0Solitary Martyr\u00a0\u00bb (2015). Il s’ouvre sur \u00ab\u00a0The Grace of the Dark\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0: tous les titres seront du m\u00eame acabit\u00a0: d\u00e9primant, m\u00e9lancolique, oppressant.
\nRoulement de tambour, riff \u00e9th\u00e9r\u00e9 mais point trop, notes \u00e9gren\u00e9es et voix claire ultra d\u00e9pressive. Paroles \u00e9voquant la perte, la d\u00e9pression. Revenons rapidement sur la voix\u00a0: elle fait beaucoup pens\u00e9 \u00e0 celle de Dave Gahan. D’ailleurs, il y a des accointances entre la musique de Deathwhite et le Gothic. Du Gothic bien plomb\u00e9 avec une batterie en mid-tempo sur ce premier titre, qui cogne assez fort.
\n\u00ab\u00a0Contrition\u00a0\u00bb, le 2\u00e8me morceau, est un peu plus p\u00eachu, avec des guitares plus mordantes. \u00ab\u00a0Eden\u00a0\u00bb est une pure complainte, un beau lamento. En fait, chaque morceau apporte sa modulation rythmique \u00e0 l’album. L’effet obtenu est un d\u00e9grad\u00e9 sur le th\u00e8me de la d\u00e9solation. Les paroles sont tr\u00e8s souvent poignantes. Un titre se d\u00e9marque\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Prison of thoughts\u00a0\u00bb. Cette voix, ces paroles… J’ai l’impression qu’on creuse un tombeau directement dans mon c\u0153ur. C’est lancinant, \u00e7a tourne en boucle comme les pens\u00e9es obs\u00e9dantes qui te minent la nuit, quand personne ne peut t’aider.
\nAu final, on ne peut pas nier la beaut\u00e9 de cet album, qui nous entra\u00eene de plus en plus profond\u00e9ment dans la d\u00e9tresse. La pochette est parfaitement en ad\u00e9quation\u00a0: en d\u00e9grad\u00e9 de gris, une colline avec un arbre mort, dess\u00e9ch\u00e9, et un ciel tourment\u00e9, clair mais vide. Froid mais beau.<\/p>\n
