Prenez 3 Am\u00e9ricains et un Anglais, m\u00e9langez leurs diverses d\u00e9ceptions et frustrations avec leurs diff\u00e9rentes influences musicales et vous obtenez ce groupe outrageusement \u00e9nergique: CENTURIES!<\/p>\n

Ils signent leur 2nd album chez SOUTHERN LORD \u00abThe lights of this Earth are Blinding\u00bb et j\u2019ai fait le cobaye pour vous (dur m\u00e9tier!)\u2026. Ma premi\u00e8re sensation me rappelle la fois o\u00f9, par curiosit\u00e9 morbide, j\u2019ai ouvert un tr\u00e8s vieux Larousse m\u00e9dical (qui recensait toutes les maladies connues du XIXi\u00e8me si\u00e8cle) et je ressens alors la m\u00eame forme de contamination… Auditive celle-l\u00e0\u2026.\u00a0 Comme atteinte d\u2019un virus mortel:\u00a0 \u00e9motions lourdes et brutales, je sens une hargne, qui fait osciller mes pulsations cardiaques en m\u00eame temps que la zic interpelle mes sens devenus hyst\u00e9riques… Entre l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re \u00abNo Future\u00bb tr\u00e8s Punk-Crust\u2019s style, une bonne couche HxC (du genre: \u00abm\u00eame mort je gueulerai encore!\u00bb) et des pointes m\u00e9lancolico-d\u00e9pressives je suis aux anges!<\/p>\n

Mais, j\u2019avoue que le diagnostic sombre et fataliste de cet album ressemble d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 une histoire qui finirait mal (\u00abpas d\u2019esp\u00e9rance\u00bb, leur dernier titre spoile d\u00e9j\u00e0!…)<\/p>\n

R\u00e9sultat de ma dissection de ce centip\u00e8de musical: le titre \u00e9ponyme galopant \u00abThe lights of this Earth are Blinding\u00bb en guise d\u2019introduction est bien p\u00eachu et assez Punk-HxC \u00e0 mon plus grand plaisir!\u2026 Puis, juste un bref moment de flottement et j\u2019entre dans des limbes acoustiques avec \u00abWooden Hands\u00bb, sorte d\u2019interlude planant avant une envol\u00e9e furieuse, qui se propage jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la g\u00e9niale rage transmise par \u00abBygones\u00bb! O\u00f9 la batterie devient marteau-piqueur et sa pulsation se d\u00e9cha\u00eene dans tes oreilles… (d\u00e9conseill\u00e9 aux migraineux!) Pour les autres, c\u2019est un bon rem\u00e8de contre toute forme de septic\u00e9mie mentale!\u2026<\/p>\n

A la fin du puissant \u00abA bow across a string\u00bb les tympans appr\u00e9cieront (ou pas!) la boucle du larsen exp\u00e9rimental titillant ton \u00e9ventuelle hyperacousie\u2026. (Perso je salue cette originalit\u00e9!) Le d\u00e9cha\u00eenement grimpe de plus belle avec \u00abThe climb\u00bb: rythmique et riffs vrombissants qui interpellent tous mes instincts primitifs, la voix se fait grognement!\u2026.<\/p>\n

Avec \u00abThe endless descent\u00bb d\u00e9finitivement HxC, le ton exulte vers l\u2019agressif, comme une fureur sans fin, amplifi\u00e9e par le rythme saccad\u00e9 de la batterie et qui finit en une obscure fr\u00e9quence obs\u00e9dante\u2026 \u00abMay love be with you always\u00bb, m\u00eame s\u2019il finit par m\u2019ennuyer un peu en longueur, n\u2019est s\u00fbrement pas une ode \u00e0 l\u2019Amour comme ce titre pourrait le laisser penser\u2026<\/p>\n

Mais voil\u00e0 qu\u2019arrive le \u00abd\u00e9nouement\u00bb avec les 2 derniers titres dont \u00abFury\u00bb qui, contrairement \u00e0 ce qu\u2019on pourrait croire commence tr\u00e8s lentement, mais il \u00e0 ce truc en plus: une lancinante d\u00e9pression en version acoustique, qui vient me chatouiller agr\u00e9ablement les oreilles avec une gratte s\u00e8che et une voix gr\u00e9sillante \u00e0 souhait…<\/p>\n

Et ce qui va conclure enfin ce second opus est l\u2019excellent \u00abNul Orietur\u00bb (\u00abpas d\u2019esp\u00e9rance\u00bb comme traduit plus haut): g\u00e9nialement HxC mais qui d\u00e9voile tout le prisme de leur Art, transplantation du\u00a0 Crust vers le quasi Exp\u00e9rimental au Sludge et qui me plonge d\u00e9finitivement dans un abysse de sons et de larsens satur\u00e9s\u2026 Ce dernier titre est le plus long des morceaux et refl\u00e8te tr\u00e8s bien ce qu\u2019est CENTURIES, il scelle parfaitement le chapitre de ce deuxi\u00e8me album, qui refl\u00e8te pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment cet intense signal d\u2019extr\u00eame urgence qu\u2019ils tentent de nous envoyer\u2026<\/p>\n
