S’il y a une chose dont je raffole, c’est d’entrer dans un monde imaginaire touffu, sans compromis et riche de nuances et de perspectives. C’est pour cette raison que j’adore la science-fiction, par exemple. Et bien en abordant le travail de David Thi\u00e9rr\u00e9e, je ressens la m\u00eame sensation de plong\u00e9e en apn\u00e9e dans un domaine immense et inconnu. Son livre, Owls, Trolls & Dead King’s Skulls: The Art Of David Thi\u00e9rr\u00e9e, \u00e9crit avec Dayal Patterson, bien connu pour sa connaissance \u00e9tendue du Black Metal, est une promenade (quoi que le terme soit un peu trop bucolique pour ces lieux) dans l’univers qu’il a mis en place depuis des d\u00e9cennies. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

David Thi\u00e9rr\u00e9e est pratiquement autodidacte, on ne tiendra pas compte de son rapide passage dans une \u00e9cole d’art qui lui a laiss\u00e9 un souvenir peu am\u00e8ne. Il dessine depuis toujours, d\u00e9couvre le milieu Black Metal des ann\u00e9es 90 et se passionne pour cette musique qui refl\u00e8te ses \u00e9tats d’esprit les plus sombres. Il cr\u00e9e des pochettes d’albums pour des groupes de cette mouvance, puis se met progressivement \u00e0 la Fantasy. Depuis quelques temps, il revient au Black Metal, et renoue avec une certaine noirceur.
\nLe livre qui nous occupe est une large s\u00e9lection d’environ 200 images, en noir et blanc et en couleur. On y trouve \u00e9galement des interviews, de l’auteur et d’autres artistes, tels que Nergal ou Mortiis.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ses dessins sont des \u0153uvres fourmillant de d\u00e9tails, figurant souvent, comme le titre l’indique, des trolls et des chouettes. On per\u00e7oit dans les \u0153uvres de David Thi\u00e9rr\u00e9e toutes sortes d’influences, de l’\u00e2ge d’or de l’illustration Fantasy \u00e0 Frazetta, en passant par Tolkien. Mais pour autant, c’est un univers original, plein de forces telluriques peu sensibles aux cat\u00e9gorisations manich\u00e9ennes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
