Si la rue de Verneuil s&rsquo;\u00e9tait situ\u00e9 quelque part en Floride. Ce ne fut pas le cas, et c&rsquo;est le beugleur \u00e0 t\u00eate de lama qui signe seul les paroles des onze morceaux d&rsquo;\u00ab\u00a0Obituary \u00bb, le dixi\u00e8me album studio d&rsquo;Obituary ; les \u00e9quarrisseurs de la baie rejoignant ici Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Marc Lavoine et Serge Lama (!), dans le pris\u00e9 cercle des artistes ayant sorti un album \u00e9ponyme. Cette impression de sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 est corrobor\u00e9e par la pochette du brulot, \u00e0 savoir le logo du groupe uniquement sur fond noir. Que les Deatheux se rassurent imm\u00e9diatement : ce Black Album-l\u00e0 ne contient pas de ballade, aussi jolie soit-elle. De m\u00eame, il n&rsquo;y a pas de livret \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur. Ce n&rsquo;est donc malheureusement pas cette fois que les fans du groupe comprendront les paroles de leurs chansons.<\/p>\n<p>Cet effort de fin d&rsquo;hiver fait suite au tr\u00e8s efficace \u00ab\u00a0Ten Thousand Ways to Die \u00bb paru en octobre dernier (NDA : voir notre chro d&rsquo;alors). Curiosit\u00e9 : l&rsquo;\u00e9ponyme (mot r\u00e9solument utile) morceau \u00ab\u00a0Ten Thousand Ways to Die \u00bb, qui figurait avec \u00ab\u00a0Loathe \u00bb au rang des deux in\u00e9dits studio sur ce disque Live, est une deuxi\u00e8me fois pr\u00e9sent sur \u00ab\u00a0Obituary \u00bb, et en version quasiment identique (l&rsquo;intro du chorus a \u00e9t\u00e9 retravaill\u00e9e) \u00e0 celle sortie il y a six mois&#8230; Mais toutefois sans que le convaincant \u00ab\u00a0Loathe \u00bb n&rsquo;ait \u00e9t\u00e9 ajout\u00e9 \u00e0 cet album studio (on aurait jur\u00e9 que Tardy disait \u00ab\u00a0AAAAALLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO \u00bb au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone au lieu de \u00ab A Loathe \u00bb&#8230;). Etrange m\u00e9li-m\u00e9lo conceptuel. Disons que les deux in\u00e9dits du Live de l&rsquo;automne dernier pr\u00e9figuraient l&rsquo;orientation artistique sur le disque sorti ces jours-ci. Surtout du point de vue sonore.<\/p>\n<p>Car c&rsquo;est la qualit\u00e9 du son qui va marquer l&rsquo;auditeur d&rsquo;\u00ab\u00a0Obituary \u00bb. La prod&rsquo; effectu\u00e9e par Mark Prator (bien Metal comme patronyme&#8230;) et par le groupe aux studios RedNeck \u00e0 Gobsonton est tout simplement magistrale. Chaque instrument est mis en valeur de mani\u00e8re claire et pr\u00e9cise, tant les graves que les aigu\u00ebs. Surtout le premier d&rsquo;entre eux : la voix de Tardy. Cette brillante mise en relief des vocaux constitue le point fort du brulot. Des bruits bruissaient dans la communaut\u00e9 Metal, comme quoi la voix de l&rsquo;homme \u00e0 la t\u00eate du dieu Urcuchillay avait faibli. Que Nenni (l&rsquo;intro de \u00ab\u00a0Betrayed \u00bb). Elle est au contraire mise en valeur de fa\u00e7on optimale sur ces onze pistes ; et porte sans coup f\u00e9rir la diversit\u00e9 des compos. Ainsi que leur agressivit\u00e9. La voix est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment l&rsquo;instrument le plus extr\u00e9miste d&rsquo;Obituary (l&rsquo;album, mais plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement le groupe). En effet, la batterie du Fr\u00e8re n&rsquo;est pas port\u00e9e en avant, et les guitares de Trevor Peres et de Kenny Andrews sont en somme toute Heavy, mais sans plus.
